this is all written down somewhere on the ibkr website, though it may be a lot to comb through. the gist is if you want to trade all options strategies including making undefined risk trades (e.g. short strangles or back ratios for credit), you need a portfolio margin account. a portfolio margin account requires a minimum $100k balance, and I believe needs $110k.
